About Kathleen Isabel Dickinson
From a letter of Kathleen's dated Feb. 25, 1983:
"I remember very little about our trip from England. I was quite ill from the vaccination and my arm was very painful and sore. I remember someone coming to look at it. I don't know if she was a nurse. We settled at Fort William on the prairie. We had cows and a hired hand to take the milk into town for sale. My father had been a Postmaster in Woodhouse and knew nothing about farming. I remember Uncle Ted was there also."
"I spent 3 years from 1923 to 1926 as a trainee for nursing at Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria. I did a little nursing for a year before I married Charles in Seattle, then did none until after we returned from San Francisco to Seattle in 1943. Then I had to take the State Board Examinations here before being able to work here. As it had been eighteen years since I graduated, I studied at home for six months, then passed the Exam in 1944 and worked at Providence Hospital, then retired to have my last child and went back to work in 1947 at Virginia Mason Hospital and stayed with them till I retired in 1969."
Kathleen always stayed home for Christmas and her large family would come by and visit Christmas Eve or day. She never went to any of her children's homes, she reserved that for Thanksgiving.
