About Kathleen "Kay" Nemmers
She was born on June 30, 1930, in Bellevue, daughter of Frank and Meta (Liefeit) Dempewolf. She graduated from Bellevue High School in 1948.
She married Kenneth Nemmers on Aug. 1, 1950, in Bellevue; he preceded her in death on Sept. 6, 1977.
Kathleen was a homemaker and had worked at Clinton Engines in Maquoketa for 24 years, until her retirement. In earlier years, she was a school teacher for three years and a housekeeper for Fr. Matt at Holy Rosary Church for seven years.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Bellevue, its Rosary Society & A.C.C.W. and the Bellevue Garden Club, where she served as president for eight years. She served on the Humane Society Board, Andrew School Board, was a 4-H Leader and was involved with the Farmers Market in La Motte the past few years.
Kathleen loved to garden and grew prize-winning glads, playing cards, fishing and spending time with her grandchildren.
Surviving are four daughters, Constance Sommers, of Phoenix, Linda (Richard) Poole, of Goodyear, Ariz., Cheryl (Jim) Lund and Pamela (Craig) Looney, both of Long Grove; 21 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen (Sam) Neff, of Washington, and Clara Felderman, of De Witt; a brother, Phillip (Sandy) Dempewolf, of San Diego; and a sister-in-law, Nell Dempewolf, of Rockville, Md.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Pauline Peters and Joan Hayes; four brothers, Frank Jr., Richard, Donald and Eugene Dempewolf; and a niece, Francine Dempewolf.
