Kathleen McGuire, 85, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at DCH Hospital in Tuscaloosa.

Mrs. McGuire had lived in Fort Payne since 1989 where she was a senior member of the local Jehovah's Witness congregation. Prior to that, Mrs. McGuire was a 30-year resident of the Travis section of Staten Island, N.Y. She was the mother of 10 boys, two of whom died in very early childhood. She raised a family of eight boys, all of whom attended Our Lady of Mt. Carmel - St. Benedicta grade school. Mrs. McGuire was a senior member of the Jehovah's Witness congregation on Roe Street in Staten Island. Mrs. McGuire, formerly Kathleen Mary McVicker, was born and raised in the Richmond Hill section of Queens as one of 10 children. She graduated from the St. Mary Immaculate School of Nursing under the Army Nurse Cadet Program and later attended St. Johns University. She served as a registered nurse until her marriage. She was preceded in death by four of her sons, Joseph, Philip, Daniel and Michael.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Vincent I. McGuire, Retired Lt. FDNY and Lt. Cmdr. USNR; her siblings, Gerard, Thomas and Patricia; her children, Vincent, Sean, Mark, Thomas, James and Timothy; one adult grandchild, Michael; eight minor grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, April 11, from noon to 6 p.m. (with a 2 p.m. service) at the Corner Stone Funeral Chapel, 40 Cornerstone Drive, Ider. She will be buried on a later date at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C.
