Kenneth B MacLagan

Adopted but not told until he was an adult. His biological father was William Stryker and Elizabeth Vessy Reock.

Died during surgery after a fall.

"I was born and raised in Newark N.J., a city of some 400,000. Our home was a Christian home of culture and harmony, in a residential neighborhood. We moved there when i was two, and lived there until I had graduated from college, when the Depression forced us to move. I was an only child.

   My father (Peter Taylor McLagan) was one of the leading architects of the area. He had left grade school to become an apprentice carpenter because of economic reasons. As a youth he studied drafting at night, and attained his success entirely upon his own ability. My mother (Mary Augusta Vancourt Birrell MacLagan) was valedictorian of her high school class. Her school, which I later graduated from, stood among the top secondary schools academically in the U.S.  She was a devout Christian. Both parents emphasized education and discipline, and there was strong love within the family.

My father's folks migrated from Scotland, my mother's forebearers settled New Amsterdam (now NY City). Both came from large families and were closely knit. Today the survivors still are, although they live in New Jersey and Florida. My grandmother lived in our house until she died when i was 8 years old." (*i donno if this was Peter's or Mary's mother)

"I started school in kindergarten. I was skipped three times (semesters). In high school, I (being younger and therefore smaller) emphasized athletics and Boy Scouting...became an Eagle Scout....

"My advanced education began in the College of Architecture, at Cornell University, but I was not sufficiently interested to follow that career choice, so I withdrew. Then I entered Columbia University in Pre-law, obtaining my Bachelor of Arts in 3.5 years. I lettered in cross country, track, swimming and basketball. ...

"Later I studied accounting with La Salle, and a graduate of Tax work at New York University. Later, I attended Iliff School of Theology....:

"My father died when I was 24, and my mother died a the age of 94.

In 1934, the year my father died, my mother an I went to Oklahoma where i had been offered a job with an oil company. There I met my wife, Virginia. We were married when I was 30. "
