LA VALE, Md. - Kenneth Diller Witmer Sr., 68, of 1022 Weires Ave., died Sunday, Sept. 5, 1999.
Born Nov. 4, 1930, near State Line, Pa., he was the son of the late Raymond Martin and Mary Diller Witmer.
He was founder and president of Witmer Foods, Inc. in La Vale.
He was a member of La Vale United Methodist Church, where he attended regularly and served on several committees.
He had served on numerous professional boards and committees. He was currently serving as member of the Board of Directors of First Peoples Community Federal Credit Union.
He was a member of Potomac Lodge No. 100 AF&AM; Cumberland Scottish Rite; and Ali Ghan Shrine Temple, where he served as a member of the Country Club Board. He also was a member of Ali Ghan Desert Legion and was a past commander of that unit. He was a member of Cumberland Lodge No. 63 Order of the Elks; a charter member of La Vale Rescue Squad; and a member of United Commercial Travelers. He was a member of Cumberland Royal Order of Jesters.
He is survived by: his wife of 44 years, Patricia A. Spessard Witmer; four daughters, Sondra Giniewski of York, Pa., Donna Gervason of Winter Springs, Fla., Diane Witmer of La Vale and Laurie Hartung of Cumberland, Md.; two sons, Kenneth D. Witmer Jr. and Jerri L. Witmer, both of La Vale; three sisters, Dortha Kipe of Greencastle, Pa., Retha Keener of Hagerstown and Mildred Landis of Chambersburg, Pa.; three brothers, Richard Witmer and Clarence Witmer, both of Greencastle, Pa. and Raymond Witmer of Morgantown, W.Va.; 16 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at La Vale United Methodist Church. The Rev. Bernadette Ross will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Hwy. in La Vale. Potomac Lodge No. 100 will conduct Masonic services today at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Visitation also will be Thursday one hour prior to the services at the church.
