Klaas Douwesz Pals was born on the island Terschelling, Friesland, Netherlands 29 February 1824. His parents were Douwe Sikkesz Pals and Geertje Cornelissen Zorgdrager.

He married 20 December 1849 Terschelling Jantje Gerrits de Jong, daughter of Gerrit Jansen de Jong and Barber Jacobs Mier. She was born 17 December 1824 Terschelling and died 28 September 1861 Landerum, Terschelling Municipality. They had six children. Four of them died young.

He married 10 October 1867 at Terschelling Grietje van Zwol. They had a son Douwe born 15 Juli 1868 in Landerum, Terschelling Municipalty, Friesland, Netherlands. He doesn't appear on the censuslists in the USA.
