About LOUISA SHUTTA

GEDCOM Note

Unsure of last name. German, supposedly came from Germany with her daughter when her daughter was about 2 years of age. Her husband supposedly killed in a war in Germany prior to Louisa coming to America. She settled in Cincinnati, Ohio and was supposedly the head housekeeper at the Cin Cin Hotel. Henry met his future bride, her daughter, Caroline, while he was in Cincinnati buying goods for his store.

Carrie, daughter of Louisa, and Henry were married in 1869 as we know. In the 1870 census Louisa and Ellie are living in the eastern half of Springfield Twp. in Hamilton Co. As you can see from the map there are a number of communities along a north-south axis along the eastern edge of this township. And of course these are near Sharonville next door in Sycamore Twp. With the growth of railroads, by 1870 the M&E Canal no longer carried any passenger packets (canal boats) and basically only handled bulk commodities, much of which was destined for the city (Cincinnati), such as hops, other grains, distilled products, wood, ice, etc. Such items that could be shipped very cheaply and at a slow pace this way (like 3-4 MPH). Thus it is more likely that a hotel like the reputed CinCin Hotel at that time would be in or near one of the communities along a rail line such as the Hamilton and Dayton Railroad you see in Springfield Twp. The problem here is that the Cincinnati city directories by-and-large did not cover people and businesses out in the townships. County directories came in the early 20th C. I might do some brief checking of the directories about that time and perhaps brief searches of OCR newspapers now online, and a couple county histories that are online. But if it were a small place there may be no historical reference to it still in existence.
