August 25, 1881Cawker City Free Press- DIED--Another old settler gone. Col.S. B. Floyd, of Blue Hills, died on themorning of the 15th inst. at the residenceof his son-in-law, J. A. Moore, aged about68 years. Col. Floyd first came to thisState in 1855, and settled near Garnett, inAnderson County. He was driven out ofAnderson County by the border ruffians andreturned to Illinois where he remained un-til after the close of the war, in which heserved with honor. He then returned toKansas and has made it his home eversince. Col. Floyd has filled many positionsof honor and trust, both in Illinois andKansas and always to the satisfaction of thepeople and credit to himself. His deathwas expected, yet many of his friends wereshocked when the summons came. He hadbeen in poor health since the war, havingsuffered with chronic diarrhea until thisdisease carried him off. His burial waslargely attended by his many friend whowere anxious to pay their last respects tothe memory of one whom all loved.
