The following are memoranda of the orders showing the qualifications in Bedford County, of Colonel William Leftwich, for the several offices referred to in said orders: Qualified as Captain, July 27, 1772; qualified as a member of Committee of Safety, Bedford County, May 23, 1775; qualified as Justice of the Peace, March 24, 1777; was appointed to administer the oath of allegiance to members of his company, July 18, 1777; qualified as Major, March 23, 1778; qualified as Lieutenant Colonel February 8, 1780; qualified as Lieutenant Colonel Commandant of Militia, July 26, 1785; qualified as Sheriff of Bedford County under commission from the Governor of Virginia dated December 14, 1786, December 25, 1786; representd Bedford County in the Virginia Legislature, 1786-1787; qualified as one of the County Trustees, December 10, 1789; qualified as County Lieutenant of Militia, March 30, 1791.

He willed his plantation to his namesake and youngest son, Rev. William Leftwich. He and his wife, Elizabeth Haynes Leftwich had four sons and four daughters.
