About Lady Catherine Eure

Catherine and her husband Ralph were second cousins; both descended from Robert de Clifford, 1st Baron de Clifford and Maud de Clare.

The Eure's castle ruins were featured on the archaeology show "Time Team". The Eure's were the owners of 11th century Malton Castle, but got in trouble with the crown as they were Catholic recusants. The castle was destroyed after they refused compliance with the government.
