There is a rose named after Lady Banks
Extract from http://blogs.chron.com/diggingin/2009/02/
"She collected: As her husband once suggested, Dorothea was a little "China mad." She collected porcelain goods from all over the world. It didn't hurt that she was friends with the Wedgewoods. She had so much of it, she had to store it in a dairy barn.
Fave quote: "We shall have much satisfaction in some comfortable casino parties together."
Husband: Sir Joseph Banks, the gentleman botanist who financed Captain Cook's first major voyage (this was before he knew her, and he rakishly abandoned an early fiance).
Her namesake rose: Think of its lacy display, especially the 'Lutea' form which is busy with delicate yellow blossoms, as an invitation to the party of spring. It was brought from China in 1807 by the botanist Robert Brown, one of many the Bankses supported. It quickly became, as you might guess, Dorothea's favorite."
