Lady Elizabeth Scott Montagu

 Lady Elizabeth Montagu was born on 29 May 1743.3 She was the daughter of George Montagu, 1st Duke of Montagu and Lady Mary Montagu.1,3 She was baptised on 25 June 1743 at St. George's Church, St. George Street, Hanover Square, London, England.4 She married Henry Scott, 3rd Duke of Buccleuch, son of Francis Scott, Earl of Dalkeith and Caroline Campbell, Baroness Greenwich, on 2 May 1767 at Montagu House, London, England.3 She died on 21 November 1827 at age 84 at Richmond, Surrey, England.4 She was buried on 3 December 1827 at Warkton, Northamptonshire, England.4,5 Her will was probated in January 1828.4      As a result of her marriage, Lady Elizabeth Montagu was styled as Duchess of Buccleuch on 2 May 1767.1 From 2 May 1767, her married name became Scott.      Sir Walter Scott wrote that "she was a woman of unbounded beneficence to, and even beyond, the extent of her princely fortune.
