16 October 1626: Charter by which Sir Ludovic Houston of that Ilk confirms that he has given the lands of Houston-Glen and others to his wife Lady Margaret Maxwell in liferent. Lady Margaret is the daughter of Patrick Maxwell of Newark. The charter was issued in fulfilment of a marriage contract dated 16 February 1615. 1 August 1627: Charter under the Great Seal of Scotland which confirms that the lands belonging to Sir Ludovic Houston of that Ilk have been incorporated into the barony of Houston, which barony is to be held in conjuct fee and heritage by Sir Ludovic and his wife, Lady Margaret Maxwell, and their lawful heirs, whom failing by Sie Ludovic's heirs.
