About Larkin Herndon
According to Sharlene Herndon, wife of David Herndon and daughter-in-law of Roland and Nell Herndon, members of the Herndon family were living in North Carolina in 1778. Wilkes County Court had a deed pertaining to Benjamin Herndon. Also Wilkes Co. Dec. 1778, there was a deed from John Payne to Joseph Herndon, 367 acres. These 2 Herndons were in the Revolutionary War.
Larkin Herndon (possibly connected to the Herndon's in North Carolina) came to Russell County, VA, probably around 1806. According to a deed Larkin bought land, 100 acres, Sept. 1806 in New Garden District on Thompson's Creek. Larkin had several children and died in 1850. His will is on record at the courthhouse. His son Martin P. died before his father and therefore he is not named in Larkin's will. (Martin's will is also at the Russell County Courthouse.) [I found Larkin and Martin's wills on the internet.] Martin married Elizabeth Hurt, daughter of Garland I. Hurt, a big landowner in Russell County. Martin's son John G. Herndon is where we follow then. John G. married Polly A. Etter. John G. Herndon's Bible is at Rolo's [Roland Herndon's]. John G.'s son was "Jack" John Wesley, then his son was Perry, then his son was Ralph.
