Larkin Jesse Howell

Larkin Jesse Howell was born in 1804 at Ashe County, North Carolina. He married Euphrasia McFarland, daughter of James McFarland, in 1844 at Russell County, Virginia. Larkin Jesse Howell appeared on the census of 6 August 1850 at Russell County, Virginia, listed as Larkin age 45 born in Ashe County, North Carolina, head of house. He appeared on the census of 1 June 1860 at Pike County, Kentucky, listed as Larkin age 56 born in North Carolina, head of house. He died before 1870.

There is possibly an earlier marriage for Larkin. A marriage license appears in the Floyd County records for a Jesse Howell and a Fanny Collitt. So far, it has not been conclusively proven that Larkin and Jesse are the same person. One concern is that the marriage took place in Floyd County, Kentucky at a time before Larkin had moved to Kentucky.

In the 1850 US Census for Russell County, Virginia, there are two members of the household who need further clarification. The first is Priscilla, age 25, born in Russell County, Virginia. The second is Jessee Howell, age 22, born in Ashe County, North Carolina.

1850 Census was in Russell Co., VA 1860 Census was in Piketon PO. in Pike Co., KY Something about your message sounds familiar to me.Did your Lilburn Dye by any chance have a family connection to a LARKIN HOWELL and PRISCILLA DYE?Larkin was my husband's 2nd great grandfather, who was born 1804 in Ashe Co, NC (family unknown).He married at least three times that we are aware of (the last two women he married were sisters): Wife #1 is unknown, but they married abt 1826. They had one son, Jesse.Wife #2 was Priscilla Dye, whom he married in Abt 1839. He and Priscilla had five children, the oldest of whom was a son named LILBURN.Larkin then married Priscilla's sister, Euphrasia (Fracey) in about 1849 and had six more children. My question is this: IS IT POSSIBLE YOUR LILBURN WAS THE OLDEST SON WE HAVE LISTED FOR LARKIN AND PRISCILLA.I suppose it could be possible that "our" Lilburn might have been born to Priscilla before her marriage to Larkin Howell, which could explain the use of his mother's surname, IF these two are, indeed, one and the same.
