GEDCOM Note

≤p>To our knowledge, this individual has never gone by the name Lars. [By Daniel G. Simmons 6 Sept 1992.] Lewis Anderson was President of the So. Sanpete Stake for 19 years and President of the MantiTemple for 27 years. He married overy 5000 couples. Lewis Andersen, the fourth President of the Manti Temple, had a very serious accident when he was a lad of fifteen years (1865). He was working for a man in Moroni and was driving a team hitched to a load of wood. The wagon had poor brakes, and while coming down the hill, the load crowded the horses, breaking the lines which caused a runaway, and tipped the load of wood on top of him. His leg was broken in two places, an arm and collar bone were also broken and he was generally mashed up. For a while, after the accident, he was presumed dead. During the long months that took his bones to knit, he became very despondent. He was concerned that he would become a burden to his family who were living under very dire circumstances. One day as he was feeling very depressed, he had an experience that made a great impression on him that he never forgot. A picture of a beautiful building appeared before him. Even though he could see nohands, it appeared to him that someone was holding it. He viewed the picture for a long enough time that he could remember all of the details of the outside. He had no idea what the building was because he had never seen a building or a picture like it before. Then the picture gradually faded away. He served two Missions for the Church in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Illinois. Upon his return toFountain Green from his Missions, he was called to serve in the Manti Temple. He had been away for most of the time the Temple was being constructed. He was on his way to accept his calling the dayof the dedication when he beheld the completed edifice and exclaimed, "There is the building I saw as a boy". He was later the President of the Temple for twenty-seven years. -- "The Manti Temple",19 88, pp. 37-39.
