About Dr. Laurence Eustace Lefevre, MA, PhD
A former university teacher who was once a collegue of Albert Einstein collapsed and died on Brentnor playing fields last Saturday.
Dr. Lawrence Eustace Lefevre
73 of the old Vicarage Brentnor, retired to Brentnor eight years ago.
Dr. Lefevre obtained a mathematical scholarhip to Balliol College, Oxford, where he received his M.A. degree.
He was given a Commonwealth Fellowship to the Mount Wilson Observatory, California, for astronomical research and it was there that he met Albert Einstein.
He obtained his Doctor of Philosophy at Oxford at the age of 25.
He went to Eton College as an assistant master, and taught there for 34 years, finishing as head of mathematics. He wrote several text books on maths.
In the war he served as a Lieutennant Commander, and wrote the first Naval text book on radar.
After retirement he went to the University of British Columbia at Vancouver to teach for five years.
At Brentnor he became involved in local affairs. He wass Governor of the Tavistock (Comprehensive) School and the Chairman of Brentnor Cricket Club.
He was greatly interested in music and was the treasurer of the KellyChoral Society.
Dr. Lefevre who was born in Huddersfield was cremated at the Weston Mill Crematorium in Plymouth on Wednesday.
Only the immediate family were present but there will be a memorial service in Brentnor.
Laurence Eustice Lefevre served in the Royal Navy in World War II. Pacific Theater of Operations. Was a Professor at Eton College, London England. Owned a home in Vancouver, B.C.
