About Laurin Ronald Hunter

"Laurin Ronald Hunter, 79, long-time Ann Arbor area resident, died yesterday morning in St. Joseph Mercy Hospital.

Mr. Hunter, who retired in 1951, was in charge of all station maintenance and operations in Michigan and Ohio for Mobil Oil CO. at the time of his retirement. He lived at 3600 Geddes, Ann Arbor Township.

Mr. Hunter was active in Ann Arbor community life, as a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Rotary Club, the Red Cross and the YM-YW-CA. He held various positions of responsibility with the First Presbyterian Church, including membership on the former Board of Trustees, the elders and the Presbyterian Corporation.

For the Huron Valley Girls Scouts, Mr. Hunter built the first shelters at Camp Linden. Interested in conservation and natural beauty, he was always hopeful that the wildlife sanctuary along the Huron River be preserved.

A native of Duluth, Minn., Mr. Hunter was born on Feb. 22, 1891. His parents were Ronald MacLaurin and Josephine Earhart Hunter. After graduation from Duluth Central High School in 1909, Mr. Hunter went west, working at a variety of jobs in Arizona, Wyoming, Mexico, New Mexico and Montana.

In 1916, he went to work for the White Star Refining Co. of Detroit, later the Mobil Oil Co. In 1917 he entered the 339th Army Engineers, where he served as a lieutenant in France.

In 1920, Mr. Hunter married Delia Alden Smith of Duluth. The couple had three children - John Cook Hunter and Mary Hunter Dobson of Ann Arbor, and Stephen Alden Hunter of Walnut Creek, Calif. Six grandchildren also survive.

Cremation has taken place. There will be private graveside services at Botsford Cemetery in Ann Arbor Township.

Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church, with Dr. Robert Sanders officiating. Friends may call at the Hunter residence from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Ann Arbor Area Foundation, P.O. Box 112, Ann Arbor, Mich. 48107." -Ann Arbor News, August 3, 1970, Page 3
