Lawrence Gorter, Sr

Funeral services were held for Mr. Lawrence Gorter, 84, at one o'clock at the home and at 1:30 o'clock at the First Reformed church on Wednesday, March 29 with Rev. H.C. Van Deelen officiating. Six grandsons were pallbearers. Interment was made In the Doon Cemetery.

Lawrence Gorter was born Aug. 14, 1865 in Andyk, Holland.

He married Anna Brouwer on Feb. 24, 1888 in Holland. Shortly following their marriage they came to the United States and settled in Iowa.

Two daughter and seven sons were born to them: Mary, Mrs. Dick Bouma; Gertie, Mrs. Lane Van Duyn; Lawrence, John, Nick, Peter, Jake, William and Cornelius.

His wife preceded him in death in 1918 and Mary, Mrs. Dick Bouma and a son Peter, also preceded their father in death.

Mr. Gorter moved to town in the spring of 1921 and has resided here until the death angel claimed him. He died suddenly. He had reached the age of 84 years, 7 months and 11 days on March 25, 1950.
