Apotekare.
"He became an apprentice in the pharmacies of Åmål and Falköping.
In 1864 he departed for America, immediately volunteering for services in the Northern forces during the ongoing Civil War. He was assigned to the U.S. cruiser Kenwood of the Mississippi Squadron, where he not only served as the doctor's steward, but also as the ship's apothecary.
In the spring of 1865 he came to Chicago and later worked in Rockford (Illinois) and St. Paul (Minnesota) as well as Red Wing (Minnesota ).
In Dec. 1871, two months after the disastrous Chicago Fire, he and his partner, Carl Weinberg, opened a Swedish drugstore at 55 East Chicago Avenue, the first of its kind in the U.S. He marked a line of Crown patent medicines, sold not only in Chicago, but sold by mail to every corner of the country."
