Lawrence W Walker Jr. was the son of Lawrence W Walker Sr. and Sophia Susan Cade, Lawrence Sr. was born in Davidson Co. TN. and Sophia was born in Wilkes Co. GA. Lawrence and Sophia moved to Noxubee Co. in 1834. Lawrence Jr. was born at "Home Place" located on Old Macon Mashulaville Rd. in Noxubee Co. MS where his parents ran a plantation until the end of the Civil War. After the war was over Lawrence's father and brothers moved back to Tennessee until just after he and Pauline Prince Walker had their 4 children, at which time the family moved back to the plantation and continued the operation with share croppers to do the daily farm work. The years at the farm was a struggle due to poor weather with uncooperative help. Pauline finally passed away in 1897 and is buried in the Methodist Salem Cemetery. Lawrence Jr. left MS shortly after Pauline's death moving to Oak Ridge with his sons who were already young adults. Two of his sons, Prince and Lawrence III are buried also here in the Oak Ridge Baptist Cemetery.
Note: While the exact location in the cemetery of Lawrence's burial is not known the information below was found in the book "Oak Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery Oak Ridge, Louisiana 1847-1988 1989 - 1990" at the Genealogy Department, Ouachita Parish Public Library On page 307 in that book is the notation for Lawrence Whitzett Walker, Sr., who died January 2, 1903. There is a notation at the bottom of the listing that says "Believed by Granddaughter Ruth Walker Guy to be buried in O.R.". [Information provided by Lora D. Peppers]
