About Lazzaro Pisani
Lazzaro Pizani was born at Zebbug on 15 December 1854. His parents were Agostiono Pizani and Giuseppa Sciortiono. He was educated at the Lyceum and his first drawing teacher was Prof. Bellanti. For two years he also benefitted from the tuition of Carlo Ignazio Cortis and in 1870 Lazzaro went to Rome to contnue his stuidies under the supervision of Luigi Fontana (painter and sculptor) and attended the Accademia di San Luca and the British Academy.
Pisani's masterpiece is undoubtedly the vault of the Nadur parish church in Gozo. The tonality of colours and presentation of the sacred episodes show his excellent techniques and academic style. Amoung his numerous works in various churches in Malta and Gozo, "St. Joseph, Patron of the Church" at Stella Maris parish church in sliema and "Our Lady of Mount Carme" at the Zebbug parish church (Malta) are two paintings which certainly deserve praise and recognition.
Lazzaro Pisani died at his summer residence in St. Paul's Bay on 31 August 1932
