LeRoy's Story

PATTEN - LeRoy Wesley Giles, 67, died unexpectedly July 24, 2010, at his home. He was born Sept. 4, 1942, in Patten, to Wesley and Iola (McLellan) Giles. He married Geraldine Crouse, Dec. 21, 1963, and spent 31 wonderful years together before her death Jan. 6, 1995. LeRoy worked at the Greyhound terminal in Boston; Great Northern Paper, Millinocket; and for the last 35 years operated his own construction business. He coached Patten League and played men's softball for Hamlet & Dolby. LeRoy was a past president and at the time of his death was on the board of directors of Patten Lumberman's Museum; past master of Katahdin Lodge No. 98 AF & AM; district deputy of the 24th district; and a proud member of Anah Shriners, Bangor. LeRoy loved his family: son, Stephen and his wife, Sheila; daughter, Susan and her husband, Rick Miller; grandchildren, whom he adored, Kristin, Katelyn, Caleb Giles and Victoria Hanson; one great-granddaughter, Gwen; six beloved siblings, Guy, Kay Rideout, Janice Greely, Lois Green, Brenda Raymond and Phyllis Chambers; six brothers-in-law and four sisters-in-law, many nieces and nephews, and many, many very special friends. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his parents and one brother-in-law. Visiting hours will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at LeRoy's residence, 210 North Road, Patten, where there will be a Masonic service beginning 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Patten Methodist Church, Patten. In interment will be at Patten Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Patten Lumberman's Museum, care of Bowers Funeral Home, P.O. Box 579, Houlton, ME 04730.
