About Leah Cain
History
LEAH ADAMS - From the May 8, 1886 edition of the Gananoque newspaper:
"While looking through the Caintown Cemetery last Sabbath, we came across two very old interments. On two smooth field stones were inscribed the names of Abel Comstock, and a Mrs L Cain. From an old lady we learn that A. Comstock was accidently shot by one Munson in the year 1812, and the old lady was interred in the year 1806. The lady was grandmother to Mr Jacob Hogaboom of Caintown, who is now 84 years of age and is hale and hearty"
(Mrs. L. Cain would presumably be Leah Adams (b. 18 Aug. 1738), the wife of Isaiah Cain. Jacob Hogaboom (b. 21 Oct. 1802) is the son of Derrick Hogaboom and Jemima Cain.)
PROBATE: Distribution of 14 acres amongst by Elisha Paine to Dorcas and David Adams via will. My reading of this that Dorcas and David, also Deceased, the land next went to their children. Leah Adams Cain and Isaiah Cain are listed as recipients of the Will. 04 April 1770
IMMIGRATION: 29 June 1789 Isaiah and Leah emigrated from New York to Canada
