Children of Edward & Ann Musgrove (of Musgrove Mill which figured in the Revolutionary War) Laurens Co., S.C. “From records we believe to be accurate, we find that Margaret (1773-1824) married Landon Waters, Ann (1773-1857) married Absalom Bobo, Hannah married Winebrenner, Leah married Glenn, Liney married Robert K. West, and William (1782- Ann Stoves [Stowes]. This leaves Rachel (1848) mentioned in Edward Musgrove’s will, untraced.”
8. Leah Musgrove. One source states that she married a Glenn.
Children include
- Washington Glenn
- Edward Musgrove Glenn
- George R. Glenn, a son of Leah (Musgrove) Glenn. His account was marked “doubtful” in 1826, meaning it might not be collectable. He may have been named for Dr. George Ross.

In 1850, George Winebrenner was enumerated on the Federal census as living in the home of Alexander Washington Glenn in Laurens County, along with Alexander’s mother, Leah (Musgrove) Glenn. Further circumstantial evidence seems to suggest that Leah (Musgrove) Glenn was the grandmother of George Winebrenner. I have established all of the known children of Leah, whose husband was supposedly William Glenn. Although all of Leah’s children that I have found were sons, the 1830 census for William Glenn in Laurens County enumerated two females, one 50-59 (Leah), and the other 30-39, thus it’s probable that Leah had a daughter, and of the age to have borne a child in 1823-25. Also in that home in 1830 were 2 males 10-14, 1 male 15-19, 1 male 20-29, 1 male 50-59, and 1 male 80-89. Considering that the only other William Glenn in Laurens County at the time had died in 1823, this one must have been the husband of Leah Musgrove.
In the 1848 will of William Musgrove of Laurens County, S.C., a full-blood brother of Leah (Musgrove) Glenn, he left bequests to Solomon and George Winebrenner, whom he named as the sons of his niece, Hannah Winebrenner. There were only two persons who could have been Hannah Winebrenner, the named niece of William Musgrove: (1) The daughter of Leah (Musgrove) Glenn. (2) The daughter of Hannah (Musgrove) Winebrenner of Allegany County, Maryland, who was another full-blood sister to William Musgrove, and who did have a daughter named Hannah Matilda Winebrenner, a niece of William Musgrove, but that Hannah was born in 1815, too young to have had a child born in 1823-25. Not only that, but she married Samuel Beeman in Allegany County in ca. 1832 and eventually moved to Illinois.

Does anyone know the parents of Hilliard G. (“Jug/Judge/Judson”) Glenn (1849->1910) of Laurens County, S.C., last living in Greenville, S.C.,who married, 1876, Mrs. Permelia “Amelia” (Garrett) Patton (1833-1915)? She was buried in Bramlett Methodist Church Cemetery, Laurens County, the widow ofWilliam H. Patton (1831-1863) who perished in the Civil War. Hilliard G. and Amelia Glenn had one daughter, Lillie Glenn (1879-), who married Elmore Long. Amelia's tombstone states that she was the wife of "H.G. Glen
Since posting, I have discovered that he was Hilliard Judge Glenn (1851-1918). Leah (Musgrove) Glenn was his grandmother. The tombstone for his wife, Amelia, was carved incorrectly as "Wife of H.G. Glenn."
notes
- This Leah Glenn was nee' Musgrove, a daughter of Edward and Ann Musgrove of Musgrove's Mill in Laurens County, S.C., and a younger half-sister to Mary Musgrove. Leah married William Glenn. Her enumerated age (60 in 1850) is incorrect as she was much older. She was born ca. 1780.
- A.W. Glenn, a son of William and Leah (Musgrove) Glenn, was Andrew Washington Glenn (1819-1889) who married Lucinda Smith (1816-1881). They had a total of eleven children, 1846-1870.
- A.W. and Lucinda Glenn are buried in a private cemetery near Bramlett Church in Laurens Co [1]

After twenty nine years of searching for the proof that Leah Musgrove had married William Glenn, I decided to review estate files for persons living close to Musgrove’s Mill hoping to find William and Leah Glenn listed at an estate sale. I found William Glenn listed on 25 April 1817 at the estate sale of Josiah Fowler (LCPC, WB D-1, 382-384.)1 William Glenn was again listed in 1818 at the estate sale of John Rodgers. (LCPC, Bundle 61, Pkg. 8.)2 Dr. George Ross, Jr., who lived adjacent to Musgrove’s Mill, died in November 1825. His estate sale listed not only William Glenn on 5 January 1826, but also Eli Winebrenner on the same date and again in 1828. (LCPC, Bundle 61, Pkg. 6.)3 Eli is the only Winebrenner ever found in South Carolina prior to Solomon and George Winebrenner, plus he was in the right place and time to have been their father. The only other William Glenn in Laurens County, a son of Jeremiah and Ann (Blagrave) Glenn, had died in 1823, so this William Glenn must have been the husband of Leah (Musgrove) Glenn.
