About Leah Pasada Kerby

According to the Kerby family record shown above, Leah Prezada Smith was born June 18, 1857, in Fillmore, Millard, Utah, to Thomas Washington Smith and Sarah Ann Boren. However, according to her Find A Grave.com memorial and her gravestone, her middle name was spelled Pasada. But her Arizona State Death Certificate simply lists her name as Leah P. Kirby (not Kerby). She was a housewife and mother, and the cause of her death was due to a gun shot wound inflicted by her son who confessed to this crime. Lea was only 58 years, 4 months and 17 days old at the time of her death on November 9, 1915. The doctor who signed her death certificate indicated he viewed her body during a coroner's inquest on November 10, 1925. The informant on her death certificate was Adelbert Hollady, Coroner of Pima County, Arizona. Both of her parents were born in Alabama according to the death certificate. She was buried in the Pima Cemetery on November 12, 1915, in Section C, Block 02, Lot 01A, site 05. There is a photo of her gravestone under the Media Tab above. The inscription at the bottom of the stone reads, "Beyond this life of grief and pain, faith whispers, we will meet again. At the top the stone reads, "Thy Will Be Done."
