About Leathra Laub

Leathra Laub, St George, Utah: Leathra Laub, age 91, went home on Wed., Feb. 26, 2014. She was born Dec. 3, 1922 in Enterprise Utah to Raymond F. Laub and Netina P. Alger. She was 1 of 5 siblings, which included herself, Val (Gaydra), Darrel, Mary (Lamond) Langston, and Myron (Joann).

She started her mothering career when her own mother died when Leathra was 11. She became a surrogate mother to her younger siblings at the time, but especially to her younger sister Mary who was age 2. No person ever had a tenderer, more loving, and fun mom than Leathra was. She continued that special mothering ability with all of her nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. So many of us call her our "other mother"

Her greatest joy was to give love to those around her, especially children. Each child's life that she touched was blessed with joy, laughter, and love. Every child who knew her loved her in return and wanted to be with her. And each child was secretly sure he/she was Leathra's favorite.

Her life was one of service to others. She looked for opportunities to serve those around her as well as holding many callings within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a master teacher, Relief Society Pres., Primary President, Missionary in the Texas Louisiana Mission, Stake Missionary several times, Genealogy worker in the Ogden Utah branch genealogy Offices when it first opened. She helped to launch the Singles program for the LDS church in her area, and held many other callings.

She excelled in her professional career as well. She started out working as a nurse's aide, teacher's aide, and clerk typist. She entered the civil service in Ogden Utah at Hill Air force Base where she was in the secretarial pool. From there, she worked her way up the GS ladder until she broke through the glass ceiling and at that time held the highest level GS position a woman had ever held. She wrote programs for the USAF and then traveled around the country teaching those programs to the various military bases. She was brilliant.

She was an artist and many homes have been graced by her art work. There are no words to express how much everyone loved her and will miss her. She will always be remembered as the best person we ever knew. The family would like to give a special thanks to our visiting angels, April, Ronnie, and Terrie for all the loving service they have given the family.

Her funeral will be held on Saturday, Mar 1st 2014 with the viewing starting at 10:00 am and the funeral at 11:00 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints located at 550 East 700 South, St George, Utah. Interment will follow at the Enterprise Utah Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the care of Heideman Hughes Mortuary.
