About Leendert Schijveschuurder
Last address: Blasiusstraat 132 I, Amsterdam
Leendert Schijveschuurder was a presser by trade. He was a member of the Communist Party. At the end of February 1941, after the February strike, he was caught red-handed when putting up posters calling for a strike on 6 March 1941. In a brief court case, Leendert Schijveschuurder was condemned to death. He was executed by firing squad on 6 March 1941. He was the first Dutch citizen dying in front of a Nazi firing squad, but not the first resident of the Netherlands. The first person to die in front of a Nazi firing squad was the German Jewish refugee Ernst Cahn.
