About Leibisch Mendel Landau
According to the official marriage record from the Przemysl archive, the 26-year-old Leiba Mendel Landau, born in Sieniawa (a small town in southeastern Poland, part of the Subcarpathian Province), son of Yakób Landau and Tauba Gottlieb, living privately in Przemysl, was married to the 28-year-old Etla Schechter, daughter of Mayer Schechter and Elka Schechter on 23 April 1887 (the Polish name of the month is Kwiecień, which derives from kwiecie, meaning flowers, reflecting the fact that it is a blooming month).
They were married by Rabbi Izak Schmelkes, an influential rabbinic scholar and zealot (search for "Rabbi Yitzhak Schmelkes" on Google) , who would also be present at the birth of the couple's children. The witnesses were Symon Rothenberg (also present at the births of most of the subsequent children) and Leiba Grünbaum.
