In 1776 Lemuel moved to Guilford, Windham County, Vt, where they settled on a farm. He was a man of distinction in Guilford and is said ( without documentation), to have served in the battle of Bennington. The family moved, in or about 1795, to Readsborough, Bennington Co. Vt; settling on a farm on the east bank of the Deerfield River, not far from the Mass. line. They spent their remaining years there; he died 9 Jun 1811 and she on 9 Apr 1813. Lemuel was a very rigid Seventh-Day Baptist. His children did not follow in this church. He was the first to be buried in a small cemetery which he and a neighbor established on the boundary between their farms. The remains of those buried there were later moved to the Whittington village cemetery when the New England Power Company built a dam and Power-house on the site. The original stones for Lemuel and Mary, plus a memorial stone erected by a great grand-daughter, Mary Parsons of Chanute, Ks, are in good condition in the Whitington village cemetary. This information was furnished by Prof. Harold Fields, a descendant who visited the site after 1970.
