Immigrated to the U.S. with his mother and two sister in 1872. They joined his father in Ecorse, Michigan. They lived in Ecorse for four years. then moved to Detroit. Leo was active in local politics and encouraged the people in his neighborhood to obtain citizenship papers and to vote. lie worked at Hargreaves Manufacturing Company where they made frames for pictures and mirrors and later worked at Haberkorn Furniture company as a cabinet maker. Naturalization papers were issued to Leo on May 2. 1895.
