Leo Landshut was the second eldest of 10 children of Lesser and Johanna Landshut. Leo became a merchant and ran his own store-warehouse before he was 45. He was arrested and jailed when the Nazis came to power, but his wife, Sarah (nee Hermann) managed to find asylum in Bled, Yugslavia. Their daughter, Ruth, was deported and probably killed in the Holocaust in 1942. Leo and Sarah had two sons, Heinz (Henry) and Martin, who managed to get to Palestine where they joined the British military during World War II. They managed to reunite with their parents in Italy after the war and then emigrated together to California where Henry and Martin changed their last name from Landshut to Stevens. Henry married and Italian lady named Ines and they had two sons, Steve and Ralph. Martin received his Ph.D in literature in Californai and went on to head the library of the State College, Laguna Beach, California. Martin died in 1982 due to complications from taking Aspirin.
Leo Landshut lived iin Berlin, Oranienburger Str. 87. Mitte, until he had to emigrate in Juy 1939. In 1957 he lived in Carlsbad, California, USA, 2685 State Street.
