Leon (36), a security guard was shot dead when eight armed robbers struck the branch of First National Bank (FNB) in Delmas.
Leon arrived first at the robbery scene at the only shopping center in this town, was shot dead in his vehicle by a robber who was waiting in the parking lot at two getaway cars.
Truter was shot three times. One bullet hit him in the head, Josef Coombe, owner of Maximum Security, said.
Capt. Jakes Jacobs, chief of detectives from Delmas, said three robbers entered the bank and two left jumped the counter, pointed firearms at the cashiers and ordered them to handover cash. The others detained about ten customers who were in the bank.
The getaway cars, a Mazda 6 and a Volvo S40, were found about an hour later on a dirt road about 25 km outside found the town towards Daveyton. According to eyewitnesses, the robbers then left in a grey-coloured Toyota Quantum van.
