    • Source 7 - "All six sons of Leonard 111 and Ann Dozier migrated to South Carolina. John, James and Leonard IV in 1769/1770. John, James and Leonard received land grants in Craven County on the South West Side of Pee Dee River in 1769 and 1770. (Royal Land Grants Volume 11, page 23 and Volume 14, pages 456-457)
      • Records of these three are found in St. David's Parish where they are listed as voting and in the militia. We have no public record stating these three are brothers, the circumstances of their appearing in the records at the same time and receiving land grants in the same area along with the fact that John and James Dozier both received Deputy Surveyor licenses in February 1768, lends support that they are brothers. (S.C. Archives Misc. Records Volume NN pp 96-99)

William Dozier, Thomas Dozier and Richard Mark Dozier migrated to S.C. in 1786. These three settled in the Ninety ix - Abbeville District. There are many records on them and their descendants. There are records to prove they are sons of Leonard III and Ann."

Revolutionary War, Source - Personal Claims Index of Lunenburg County, Virginia, in Virginia State Archives. "Leonard Dozier 1710 1785 served his country during the Revolutionary War by furnishing beef to the Army and was paid for same. He was a Patriot!"

Leonard Dozier 1710 - 1785 used his tobacco mark at the Colchester Store in Fairfax County during 1759 - 1765. Served in Revolutionary War by providing beef to the army. Moved to Lunenburg County in 1765, in vestry book of Cumberland Parish. His sons migrated to South Carolina.

Listed in his will: John, James, Richard Mark, William, Thomas, daughters Susanna Barry, Jeminah Scott, Kezia Crymes, grandchildren Robert Scott and Becky Scott; husband of Jeminah (Thomas Scott).

RESIDENCE: Known to have lived in Richmond and Prince William Counties, VA but settled in Lunenburg Co. VA before 1750

RELIGION: A vestryman in the Church of England, Cumberland parish , Lunenburg County, VA. See Landon C Bell's book, Cumberland Parish.

LAND: Leonard Dozier of Prince William Co. VA was granted 404 acres in Lunenburg Co. VA; patent dated at Williamsburg, 5 Jun 1746, l and located on lower side of Tosekiok Creek. (not sure of first letter in name of creek, but in comparing it to other writing, it does appear to be a T)

DEATH: Will was written 31 Jan 1785 and entered into Court Records to be probated 12 May 1785.

WILL OF LEONARD DOZIER III: Lunenburg County, VA 1785

In the name of God, Amen Last Will and Testament of Leonard Dozier of the County of Lunenburg and Parish of Cumberland being in perfect senses praise being to Almighty God for the same, I commit my soul to Almighty God my Creator wherein and through the merits of Christ Jesus my blessed Savior and Redeemer I hope to have part in the resurrection of the just. My body I commit to be decently buried as my executors hereafter named shall see convenient, and as to my worldly goods which God has been pleased to give me I give as followeth, my just debts being first paid,

  • Item, I give to my son John Dozer forty pounds cash and one feather bed and his_in.
  • Item I give to my son James Dozer two children not knowing their names one of them a feather bed and furniture the other ten pounds cash.
  • Item, I give to grand daughter Beckey Scott one bed and furniture and one womans saddle and bridle, and to my grandson Robert Scott ten pounds cash.
  • Item I give to my son Richard Mark Dozer one feather bed and furniture and one cow and calf and one Negro boy named Ned, the rest of my Negroes I leave to be sold with my household furniture and stock for ready cash and the money equally to be divided amongst my other children hereafter named - Susanna Barry, William Dozer, Jeminah Scott, Kezia Crymes and Thomas Dozier the land whereon I now live I leave to be sold for a twelve months credit the money to be divided amongst my five last children above mentioned.

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 31st day of January one thousand seven hundred and eighty-five.

At a Court held for Lunenburg County the 1st day of May 1785 . The within last will and testament of Leonard Dozer, decd., was exhibited in Court by William Dozer and Thomas Scott two of the executors therein named, was proved by the oaths of two of the witnesses thereto subscribed and ordered to be recorded (and on motion of the said executors) who made oath according to law, certificate is granted them for obtaining probate of the said will in due form, they giving security. Whereupon they together with David Abnathy and William Scott their security entered into and acknowledged bond according to law. Teste: Wm. Taylor CC Recorded: Will Book No. 3 Page 208

One record shows born Lunenburg Parish, Richmond Co., VA Records from World Family Tree Vol. 15, Ed 1, Tree #0871. WFT 25:398 stated the birth information came from the Leonard Dozier 111 Bible of South Carolina and Elbert County, Georgia. One record shows born 1710 Richmond Co. VA.

Sharel Sue Smith McAdoo, DAR National Number 0705170 shows died "a 12 May 1797" One record shows he died in Elbert Co., Georgia.
