RECORD:

1. Richard A. Lloyd, Some Descendants of Leonard Wayman, Maryland Planter 1670--1721 (Oct 1993), pg. 5-10, RIchard A.. Lloyd, 930 Astern Way Apt. 508, Annapolis, Md.. 21401. " The first Leonard Wayman had an active life iin Maryland from about 1670 to 1720...The first records of Leonard Wayman was his aapearance before Charles Calvert, Lord Proprietor.. on this Occasion he proved his right to fifty acres of Land "for services" [Land Office Patent Records Anne rundel County Lib... 15 Folio 301 Lib 22 Folio 407 Leonard Wayman Rights & Warn 50 Acres: July 1st 1676 Came Leonard Wayman of Annn Arundel County and proved his right to fifty acres of land for his time of service performed in this Provence before me Cha. Calvert.. Warrent then granted to Leonard Wayman for fifty acres of land due to him as above ceert. ret.. 10th January]...This record indicated that the service was in the Provence of Maryland, but did not state the location of this land or length of service.. Typically the sevice length would have been about five years. Leonard's later land records are in the area of 'South River Hundred' and it is assumed that the land in this orginal grant was between the south and the Patuxent Rivers in the 'South River Hundred' This service was indentured serivce. He earned the land for services to some lord or landowner,, but no record of which landowner, where or when was found. The actual indenture document was not found...Where did he come from? England, maybe Virginia...It is probable that Leonard was married twice.. The difference in age between Leonard's daughter Deborah and his sons Edmond and Leonard (she was married just as they were born) suggest that Deborah was from a first marriage and the boys from a second.. Estell Watson [A.A.. Gentry Md... Pioneer Series (1970) Herny W. Newman Familty Lines Pub. Westminister, Md...,, pg. 147) believes that both wives were named Dorcas (sometimes written as Darcus, Dorcus, or Darkis) and that the first Dorcas was the daughter of SImon and Maudlin Abbott who arrived in Maryland about 1651 Maudlin appears to have been married twice after Simon died. Maudlin Southwick left a legacy to Deborah Wayman, the daughter of our Leonard Wayman.. The records of the All Hallows Parish clearly indicated that the mother of the later sons was named Dorcas, but does not hint at her maiden name. The early records do not tell whether Leonard was married before or after he arrived in Maryland...The first land record for Leonard was the 50 acres granted in 1675 for services. The next record was the 1683 lease of 'Poplar Ridge' from Maudlin Southwick and George Burgess [Lease AA Co. 1683 Lib IH # 1 Folio 175 & 179] ...In 1684 Maudlin Southwick sold 150 acres of 'Poplar Ridge' to Leonard for one pound sterliing... It is beleived that this is the legacy which Maudlin Southwick gave to Deborah Wayman.. The one pound sterliing being 'connsideration' required to make the transfer legally binding.. In 1698 (the year Debroah married Thomas Linthicum). Lenoard's wife, Dorcas, consented to the sale of 'Poplar Ridge' and Leonard sold the land to William Bateman [Deed AA co. 1698 Lib IH #1 pg. 187 & 184]....Prior to selling the 150 acres of 'Poplar Ridge Leonard in 1688 patent 200 acres called "Ovenwood Thicket which was located in the forks of the Patuxent River ....In 1706 Leonard patented 'Wayman's Marsh' which was 57 acres adjacent to 'Ovenwood Thicket'. In 1718 Leonard gave both grants to Edmond and Mary Linthicum Wayman [Deed of conveyance AA co. 1718 Lib IB 2 Folio 530] and in his will he again gave it to Edmond. In 1699 Lenoard also patented a 10 acre grant he named Tangine' (Tangier) which was only indentified as being at the head of South River [Patent AA co. 1694 Lib 22 Folio 407; Lib N.S.. # B Folio 629]. Leonard willed this grant to his two son, but included a condition that: "...his son-in-law Linthicum and his heirs be allowed to build a house for their conveniency of Rowling Job; or other occasion..." ...1703 saw a large increase in Leonard's land ownership.. He had a survey done on 'Happy Choice', a 300 acres tract in Anne Arundel county laying on the east side of a branch of the Patuxent River and adjacent to 'Duvalls Free' the record of could not be found. In 1680 Robert Gray conveyed the property to a John Gray [Deed AA co.. 1688 Lib # 22 Folio 426] . Leonard purchased it sometime prior to 1703. Estelle Watson stated that in 1703 some land records were lost in a fire. Perhaps, the 'Happy Choice' records were lost and Leonard was forced to re-established his title to the property by this 1703 survey.. Leonard had the property re-surveyed again in 1734 and patented in his own name [Re-Survey 1734 AA co. Lib EI #5 Folio 163; Patent 1734 AA co. Lib EI #1 Folio 453]...The 1707 rent rolls [Maryland Rent Rolls, Baltimore and Anne Arundel County, 1976 Gen. Pub. Co. Balti., Anita Camtois] showed Leonard paying the Lord Proprietor rent on 'Happy Choice' (300 acres), 'Puddington's Englargement (200 acres), 'Tangine (10 acres) and 'Ovenwood Thicket' [Indenture AA co. 1710 Lib PK 1708 --1712 Folio 326]. At the time of Leonard's death he only owned 'Happy Choice', 'Ovenwood Thicket', 'Wayman's Marsh',, "Tangier and 'Brotherhood' [Maryland Callnder of Wills Vol. V pg. 55 1917 Joane (Baldwin) Cotton Kohn and Pollock Pub. Balti, Md.]...No purchase record of 'Brotherhood' could be found...The will of Leonard [Wills 1720/2 AA co.. Lib 16 Folio 441; Patent 1734 AA co., Lib EI #1 folio 453] was written 17 March, but it is a little unclear whether this was 1720 or 1721. The existing transcription reads "1720/21". Two of the witnesses to the will "endorsed it on 6 April 1721...The will indicates his "well beloved wife" in living...It specifically names his daughter,, Deborah, and his two sons, Edmond and Leonard...The first account of Leanord's estate was filed 4 October 1721 by his wife Dorcus [accounts 1721 AA Lib #4 Folioo 30].,..An Inventory of Leonard's personal property [Inventory 17221 AA co. Box. 27 Folder 32]...Dorcas signed her mark on these documents which indicates she could not write.."

3. Richard A. Lloyd, Some Descendants of Leonard Wayman, Maryland Planter 1670--1721 (Oct 1993), pg. 27-8, RIchard A.. Lloyd, 930 Astern Way Apt. 508, Annapolis, Md.. 21401. " The very existence of a Leonard Wayman is speculation and his placement as a son of Edmond Wayman and Mary Linthicum is speculation to the second power....He father at least two children: Charles and Dorcas, bby a first wife and just before his death in 1744 had married the widow Deborah Boyd.. There is only the thinnest of reasonns for placing him in any other family group. in 1743 this Leonard Wayman signed a bond for a debt to Henry Hall of Middle Platntation. The bond also commits the widow Deborah Boyd, who Leonard states 'with whom I soon thereafter to marry'. Leonard died in 1744 and his widow Deborah prepared the inventory." NOTE: See also Leonard son of Leonard his uncle, as same details appeared there to as to Leonard Wayman married Deborah Boyd etc..makes these two enties confusing..
