About Leopold (Juda Löbl) (Löwy) Zerkowitz
Leopold was born in Trebic, Moravia, 6 November 1788, the son of Markus-Jonas Zerkowitz and his first wife, Ester. His birth record lists him as "Juda", and his full name was "Jehuda Aryeh Leib", in honor of his deceased paternal grandfather. When just a young boy, he moved with his father and stepmother to Obuda, Hungary (around 1794) and spent his youth there.
As a young man, Leopold Zerkowitz left Obuda and moved to Nagy Kanizsa, Zala megye, Hungary in 1817. He was a shopkeeper / tradesman ("boltos") by occupation. He is seen in the 1848 Jewish census:

Leopold Zerkowitz died in Nagy Kanizsa on 31 October 1860, age 72 years.
