About Leopoldine Quittner
Leopoldine Quittner (née Mahler), 4th child and 1st daughter of 3 in the Mahler family, was born 18th May 1863, at Iglau/Jihlava, in Moravia. Her birth came exactly 48 years to the day before her world renowned composer/conductor brother, Gustav Mahler, would die of a cardio disorder, at Vienna. "Poldi" died 27th September 1889, at Vienna, of a brain tumor. She was just 26.
Leopoldine Quittner-Mahler was the mother of a daughter, Anna, age 3 and a son, Heinrich, who was not yet 2 , when their mother died. Gustav Mahler was age 29 when his eldest sister died in the same year that both of their parents passed away. Bernhard Mahler, Leopoldine's and Gustav's father, died of complications from diabetes; Marie Mahler (née Hermann), their mother, lost her life, as Gustav would, to a severe heart ailment.
