BRIER rites on Monday
Last rites for Leslie G. BRIER, 85, 406 S. Fourth St., are scheduled Monday at 2:30 p.m. at the Raymond Funeral Home.
BRIER died Friday morning at the Jefferson County Hospital. The service will be conducted by the Rev. David Kennedy. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
BRIER was born Oct. 18, 1893 at Pleasant Plain, the son of Albert and Hannah QUICK BRIER. He graduated from Fairfield High School in 1912 and Parsons College in 1917. He resided in Van Buren County for 22 years before making his home in Fairfield.
Surviving are two brothers and one sister, Earl BRIER, Birmingham; Glenn BRIER, Arlington, Va.; and Rose WALTZ, Orient, Iowa. Also surviving are two step-sisters, Fern WOODHALL, Rockville Center, N.Y., and Grace DeMOSS, Yokon, Okla.
One sister preceded him in death.
Leslie was a graduate of Parsons College, Fairfield. As a young man he was seriously burned in an explosion in a broom factory. He also had tuberculosis for 12 years. Part of this time he was in Oakdale sanatorium near Iowa City. He said he had to furnish his own bedding. When he was sent home, he stayed with his Aunt Flo in Fairfield, and slept partly outdoors in an enclosed porch. Leslie never married. He remained close to his brother Earl. When Leslie moved back to Fairfield after his years in Van Buren County,. he lived alone in his father's former house on Lowe St. Leslie's last residence was in the Logan Apartments.
