He lived as a child on Farm 109 Hanwood Rd Griffith and later at 23 Wakerden St Griffith.( This house now gone and new place renumbered 223). He was educated at Hanwood school and at Griffith. He left after completing primary and worked on his father's Farm. He was a gifted pianist and was very popular at dances in and around griffith during the 1930s-40s. He was manager of Griffith's JOHNSONS TUCKSHOP and swimming pool at Griffith High School. When war broke out in 1939 he enlisted for the Armoured Division and transported Tanks around western Australia but didn't see overseas service. He was a musician and song writer. He composed and conducted "Griffith on the MIA", part of the waterwheels festival held at the then RIO theatre Sun 6th May 1956.
