Leslie Raymond Pettet was the son of Taylor J. Pettet and his wife, Martha Elizabeth (Lloyd) Pettet. He was the grandson of Churchwell Pettet and his wife Hannah Pettet of Hampshire County, VA./WV. He married Agnes May Samuels on March 4, 1914, and the couple had three children; daughters Violet Delores Pettet Daddysman and Frances Elizabeth Pettet, and son Raymond Pettet.

Leslie Raymond Pettet possessed many talents. He traveled some before 1920, spending some time in Illinois and California. For a period of time, about 1915-1922, he operated a General Store in Piedmont, Mineral County, WV. He also worked for a time for the B&O Railroad, Westvaco (West Virginia Pulp And Paper Company), and was a professional upholsterer. In later life, about 1945-1955, he owned and operated an antique shop in Piedmont, Mineral County, WV. He was a great teller of stories, and was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
