About Lester Delino Durbin
"Delno" was born in Rock Lick, Marshall Co., WV, on Dec 8th 1888, and lived in Cameron, Marshall Co., West Virginia most of his civilian life. He was the son of Andy J. Durbin, b. Feb 1854, and Mary E., b. Dec 1856. His siblings were: Blanche V.; Alonzo L.; Bernice S.; Merlie K. and, Walter G. Durbin. In 1910 he was enrolled as a Private in the USMC stationed at Camp Elliott, Canal Zone, Panama. Following a four-year enlistment he returned to Cameron and found employment as a Tool Presser in the oil fields at a time when oil and gas were being extracted in Marshall County. On June 5, 1917 he registered for WWI and is described on his WWI Draft Card as being of medium build, medium height with brown eyes and light colored hair. He was a member of the American Expeditionary Forces in France and was killed in action on 15 July 1918. After cessation of hostilities, his remains were repatriated and interred at Arlington National Cemetery on March 2nd 1922.
