Lester H Salkin

Lester Harold Salkin, 96 (1916-2012). Loving husband to Alberta, and father of Leslie S. Millman and Jonathan T. and Oleasa Salkin. Proud Grandfather of Micha Millman, Raheli and Jim Harper, Sarah Millman, and Arielle Salkin. Great-grandfather of Able Millman Harper. Lester Salkin was born in Oil City, PA, son of Esther Mollie and Abraham Salkin, and had one beloved older brother, Sidney Salkin. Lester was a member of the Oil City High School class of 1934, from where he and his brother continued on to Parks Air College in St. Louis, MO, graduating in 1938 with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. He studied Advanced Aircraft Engine Design at New York University. Lester's career spanned aviation history from the biplane era to landing on the moon. Lester and Alberta married in 1947 in Larchmont and had two children, Leslie and Jonathan. Throughout his career, Lester worked in the aeronautical and aerospace industry for notable companies such as Corydon M. Johnson Co., Inc. and Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corporation. In his spare time, Lester enjoyed sailing and building model airplanes and ships. Lester belonged to the Community Synagogue of Rye. He was an active member of the Retired Men's Club at the JCC, in Scarsdale, NY and worked in an organizational and administrative capacity for the Boy Scouts of America. Lester was also a member of many commercial, governmental and military aviation associations and a standing member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics for 60 years. The funeral service will be held at the Community Synagogue of Rye on Friday, May 11.
