About Lettice Work Finley
Wife of John P. Finley. Died in childbirth with first child.
Obituary Mrs. Lettie Finley, wife of Captain John P. Finley, died at the family residence in Winter Creek precinct last Saturday morning. The interment occurred at the Gering cemetery on Sunday afternoon, and in the casket with the remains of the departed lady was laid the little body of a new born baby, whose life was scarcely that of a spark. From this fact may be gleaned an inkling of the sudden and unexpected nature of the terrible misfortune which has brought sorrow to Captain Finley, one of the respected citizens of the county, and to the family of the deceased, who was the oldest daughter of Thomas H. Ewing, of Mitchell. Lettie Ewing was born in the state of Pennsylvania about thirty-one years ago, coming west with her parents, who were among the the pioneers first settling in the North Platte valley. She was married in this county to Captain Finley. She had many friends, and no enemies, and the great procession of friends and neighbors which accompanied the funeral cortege to the cemetery amply attested the esteem in which she was held. Rev. A. Chamberlain conducted the services at the house, delivering an appropriate funeral sermon. The Courier unites with Mr. Finley's many friends extending condolences.
