- Will of Levi Brooks, Reel #17, taken from films obtained from Richmond Archives Page 51 of Will Book #4 and #5, 1814-1825, Charlotte County, Virginia:I, Levi Brooks of Charlotte County being weak in body, but of sound and perfect mind and memory, do make and publish this my last will and testament in the manner and form following that is to say, Ye, my will and desire is that my five children, Jessee, Martha, Robertson, Joel and Nancy Brooks and my Negroes, Linda, Nan, and Lissy, be moved to Franklin County to the Plantation I purchased of Thomas Napper and two of my horses together with my plantation tools and sufficient of pork to supply them one year likewise two feather beds and furniture to be carried with them for the benefit of them. Ye, then my will and desire is that my children and the above mentioned property be put in the care of my Father and Mother provided they will go and live with them, on the above mentioned plantation. Provided my father and mother will not go, my desire is that my friend,Thomas Hamblin, take charge of my plantation and children together with the above mentioned property. Then, my will and desire is that whoever takes charge of my children's plantation and the above mentioned property, my Father or Thomas Hamblin, he shall be furnished with money to purchase corn for the use of the plantation above mentioned one year. Then my will and desire is that all the residue of my property to be sold and after paying for the above mentioned tract of land and my other just debts, the balance of the money to be put on interest until my son Jessee Brooks, becomes of age then the whole of my estate,real and personal, be equally divided between my five children, Jessee, Martha, Robertson, Joel, and Nancy Brooks. Thereby, appoint Bracket Barnes and Travis Brooks, my executors of this my last will and testament and witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this second day of December in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred fifteen.
