Son of Levi & Hulda (Beach) Neal of Pitcher, NY. The following story appeared in the Cortland Democrat, March 22, 1901, pg. 1
THE LATE LEVI NEAL, OF TAYLOR. Levi Neal was almost a life-long resident of Taylor. His parents came many years ago from the state of Connecticut and settled in Chenango county, where Levi was born in North Pitcher, November 21, 1823. While yet young he came to Taylor and learned the trade of shoemaking of Noah Cotton. He was married July 8, 1847. to Miss Mary Ann Beebe, a grandchild of one of the first settlers in the township of Taylor. Two sons were born. Frank P. and Charles T. At an early age they went West, which at that time offered special inducements to bright young men, and settled in Lincoln, Neb., where they now reside, being engaged in a lucrative business of their own. Mr. Neal worked for the late George Gage for many years at shoemaking. During Cleveland's first administration he was appointed Postmaster, an office which he filled to the satisfaction of all. In politics he was an ardent believer in Democracy and voted that ticket for over 50 years. He died October 12, 1896, aged 72 years and 11 months, from the effects of a stroke of paralysis. His widow. Mrs. Mary Neal, still resides in Taylor.
