Levin, later 'Louis' Deal was born on August 28 1888 at 15 Baalbec Rd., Islington, London, at the house of his father's brother-in-law (?), shortly before his parents emigrated to East London, South Africa. His father's occupation was listed in the Birth Certificate as 'Commission agent'. Louis was sent to school in England aged 13 in 1901 and after finishing his schooling, he was articled with solicitors in London, did not complete the process and went into the film industry around 1910. Louis and his first wife Dorothy Patterson, daughter of a retired Captain of the Royal Irish Rifles, both lived in Ossington Street in Bayswater, London, at No..17 and No. 31 respectively: Their son Derek George was born in 1912 four months after the wedding.on 23. 12. 2011.
