Indian Troubles

1751-1754 , New Hampshire, Canada

In 1851, Moses Willard's daughters Miriam and Susanna, along with others, were taken captive by Indians and forced to march to Canada. They spent some time in Montreal, and were eventually ransomed, returning home via England. Upon returning home, they found that their father had been killed by Indians during their absence. Susanna later wrote about the ordeal, and much later the book Calico Captive, by Elizabeth George Speare, was based on their experience.
