Inscription: Erected in memory of Lieu Mofes Willard and Mrs Sufannah his wife who were firft settlers of this Towne. Whofe boddys are interd. He was killd by the Indians June 16th 1756 in the 54th year of his age. And fhe departed this life May 5th 1797 in the 88th year of her age.

  • Susanna's birth, marriage, and death information is available in History of Charlestown, NH - Fort No. 4, by Rev. Henry H. Saunderson, published 1876, pages 51-52.
  • Susanna and Moses were married on 28 September 1727 in Groton, Province of Massachusetts Bay. They relocated in 1732 to Lunenburg, Province of Massachusetts Bay. They removed in 1742 to Charlestown, Province of New Hampshire, of which Susanna's husband Moses was one of the founders and town officials. Of Susanna, "She lived to such an advanced age that she could say (in the language of her daughter [Susanna, nee Willard] Johnson), 'Arise, daughter, and go to thy daughter, for thy daughter's daughter hath got a daughter.' "
