About Lieut.(USA), Matthew Bell

Matthew Bell served in the Union Army during the American Civil War as a member of the 7th New York Heavy Artillery Regiment. He enlisted in Company C, 7th New York Heavy Artillery Regiment on 09 Aug 1862. Promoted to Full 1st Sergeant on 18 Aug 1862. Promoted to Full 2nd Lieutenant on 19 Aug 1862. Promoted to Full 1st Lieutenant on 07 Mar 1864. He died on 12 April 1864 of chronic bronchitis in the regimental hospital at Fort Reno in Washington, D.C.
