" ... In January, 1776, as appears by an order of the Committee of Safety for the colony of New York, acting under authority of the Provincial Congress, Christopher Wolfe, brother of David, was appointed 'Second Lieutenant of the Militia Company of Foot in the city of New York, in the beat described by the City Committee by beat number thirteen, of which company David Wolfe, Esquire, is Captain." This certificate bears the signatures of Pierre van Cortlandt, Chairman, and John McKesson, Secretary. ... "
